Keep company with the wise and you will become wise. If you make friends with stupid people, you will be ruined.
(Proverb 13:20 – TEV)
Today we celebrate the National Book Day. Time has changed much of our habit of reading. While the children of 1980’s or 1990’s read a lot of books, nowadays people prefer reading e-book than books.
If you are fond of reading novels, you may know the famous English novels such as Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit and the Chronicles of Narnia. It is interesting to know that the authors of these great novels were close friends. J. R. R. Tolkiens and C. S. Lewis were friends and are both members of the Ingklings, an informal discussion group where they encouraged one another to finish their work.
The Ingklings is an example that a society can affect someone’s life, because people tend to adjust themselves with their environment, including their friends.
The same thing happened to us. We did knowingly or not become like our friends. Either better or worse! That’s why God reminds us to be careful in making someone as best friend. You have to keep your step away or they will grow in you!
“God, forgive me when I chose a wrong path because of bad friends. Please help me to be a good example in spite of compromising myself to follow them. Teach me to support my friends in doing good habit as you guide me to follow your way. Amen.”
