The Bible in One Year:
II John
Golden Verse
A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the LORD, make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.”
(Isaiah 40:3)

Kerygmers, Christmas is coming! What is Christmas really means for you? Are there special experiences you will always remember about celebrating Christmas? You may think of shopping various things, spending a lot of money buying presents for your families and friends, or going to your favorite restaurant, or even take a vacation out of town. Those are some of the activities you may be doing at Christmas time, and all of them can give you joy. As joyfully as they are, those are only the superficial ways to celebrate Christmas. But is it wrong to celebrate Christmas with those activities? Of course not. But there is a real and spiritual meaning of Christmas that we all have to know!

Let’s read the Gospel of Mark. It said that John the Baptist was preparing the way for Jesus Christ before He came. Notice the important word, “preparing.” So what should we prepare on this Advent time as we approach Christmas? It should be more than just installing Christmas tree, or buying gift and planning Christmas party. We should prepare our heart for Jesus, of course, whose arrival in this world was the very event that we celebrate at every Christmas. We should also prepare ourselves to help those in need, because that’s what Jesus wants us to do. He came to give everyone joy and peace. Christmas is a time for sharing and caring.

You can make a simple Advent tree. You may use used papers or cups or anything. Your calendar will start from December 8th until December 25th. Write down a different good action everyday for helping other people. You may see how it can be an excellent experience if you share happiness to other people day by day until Christmas day. (You can see sample of Advent tree).

Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts. (Janice Maeditere)
“Help me, oh God, to prepare my Christmas Day this year by learning to open my heart to Jesus and to people in need, and to share your love with them. In Jesus name. Amen”
