Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
(Eph. 6:2– KJV)
When I was a child, sometimes I was angry with my parents. I thought my parents were out of fashion because they forbid me to do several things. As teens, sometimes I broke their rules and got many troubles because of it. When I grew up and received Jesus at the age of 12, the Holy Spirit told me to ask their forgiveness for my disobedience.
More mature in Christ, I understand that parents are a blessing present in our life. Later on, both of my parents passed away and I realize how important they are to me. They are surely not perfect and did wrong now and then. They are just human. However, they brought a stamp in their lives as parents; that means that they were responsible in front of God to take care of us, their children.
The Bible, in effect, says, “Respect your parents.” That is one of God commandments and if you obey it, there is a promise God provides for you: a blessing life will follow you. Our parents are like banyan tree: big and strong enough to hold you and to give you a peace place to lie down though it looks strange. In your mind perhaps you disagree with this idea. You probably said, “My parents always grumble, yell and humiliate me, they are bad parents.” No guys, those are instead signals of their deep love and concern for you. Just pray to the Lord and love your parents. Don’t forget to meet them and tell them that you love them so much.
“Jesus, thank you for both of my parents. Help me to love and obey them and to be a good child while I grow up in your Word. Amen”
