“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
(1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
1 Corinthians 6:14-20
In an episode of the TV show Friends, Chandler and Joey turn on their television to discover that for some reason, their cable company is allowing them to receive free porn. For the rest of the episode, these guys are glued to the set. They never leave the house. They never leave their chairs. The TV never gets turned off. They couldn’t get enough of the stuff. Pornography is dangerous because it always leaves you wanting more. Lust never delivers what it promises.
With lust, we can be tempted to act physical acts towards the opposite sex, and just like the last line of the paragraph above, lust never delivers what it promises. It might feel good for a minute, but the feeling after, is far from good and can last for a long time. We are then left with regret and remorse for acting outside of God’s perfect plan. He wants us to save ourselves for marriage and if disobey that, what we are left is, emptiness and longing for something that is no longer there.
“Dear God, give me the wisdom to overcome temptations and lust. Let my eyes be pleasing to You and my thoughts not upset You. I pray that I can live right by Your plan and will. Should I get into situations where it is tough for me to overcome, I pray the Holy Spirit will come and guide me to do the right thing and turn away. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.”
